My wife dragged me along to my first yoga class in 1998. I can’t say that I fell in love with yoga initially as I found it extremely challenging – I could barely touch my shins in a forward bend. Perhaps being nearly 30 kg’s overweight added to my discomfort.

But what intrigued me most was how fluidly some of the people in the room could move their bodies – and it was from that starting point that I decided to take the practise of asana (yoga postures) more seriously, which ultimately helped my weight loss and health problems.

Santosha Yoga and Health Centre (Santosha means to be content with what you have) was founded in 2004 after I had completed my first year of TTC (Teacher Training Certification) in the Bihar style (Satyananda) of yoga. I later did another TTC in Hatha yoga with Kerry Weavind in 2008. I have also done further training in Hatha, Ashtanga-Vinyasa yoga, Flow yoga as well as Power Yoga. I continue to deepen my practise by attending as many workshops as possible with local and international teachers.

During my classes you will learn to move with effortless effort (moving meditation) once the body opens and frees itself from stuck energy and emotions, all the while flowing with the breath. My style of teaching is influenced by Bihar (Satyananda), Vinyasa Flow, Hatha and Ashtanga yoga  – and as a result my classes will offer a mix from the various styles thereby offering a challenging and energetic class that is focused on breath, alignment, balance, strength as you move the body from asana to asana.

Yoga simply has to be practised especially today with most people living a sedentary life, for example sitting in a chair  or driving in a car or slouching in front of a computer  for most of the day.
